Fly Your Freak Flag
Cosmic Weather, Tiny Spell for July 29th, 2026
Today’s post is dedicated to the memory of Carolyn Elliott. What is remembered, lives. 🕯️
It’s Full Moon today, and while I know that not all of y’all here in my realm are art witches, a lot of you are, so this is your reminder that if you don’t work the Full Moon in some way, its energy can work you, and not always in ways you might prefer, so if you can, take some time today to mark the occasion. This can be as simple as lighting a candle and whispering your wishes to Mama Moon, making moon water, making art that expresses gratitude for boons or blessings, or simply nodding at the fact of it.
If you’re in Moonshine, your stuff is up and there’s lots there for you to engage with as always!
Yesterday’s post includes a speed painting of something I made for a Full Moon in Aquarius, so you can check that out if you’re so inclined, but first...
✨ Cosmic Weather for Art Witches ✨
The Moon is full in Aquarius today.
The Full Moon is a bright peak of illumination. Something comes into view more clearly, and Mama Moon shines enough light around it that its shape becomes more “readable”.
Aquarius brings our attention to individuality, community, perspective, and the strange little ways we belong without becoming identical to one another.
Together, they might nudge us to consider the difference between fitting in and belonging. Fitting in is about conforming so we don’t stick out. Belonging is about being so authentically yourself that your people notice you, find you, and join their light to yours.
For the Art Witch, this is beautiful weather for a “fly your freak flag” style spread that celebrates what is unique about YOU.
🕯️ Today’s Tiny Spell:✨
Do your usual opening. Light a candle if that’s your jam. Touch your journal so it knows you’re there.
Choose three or four scraps of paper that feel like they represent some part of you and yet, have absolutely no business being together.
Different colours. Different patterns. Different textures. Something elegant beside something ridiculous. Something handmade beside something printed. Something precious beside literal trash. As you work, consider your own internal parts. Embrace the contradictions.
Arrange them on your page without trying to make them match.
Glue them down.
Now choose one mark that belongs entirely to you.
It might be a particular scribble, spiral, line, symbol, tiny flower, constellation of dots, bit of handwriting, or strange little shape you find yourself making over and over again.
Repeat that mark across every piece of the collage.
Let it cross seams. Let it wander from one scrap onto another.
Add paint, pencil, thread, ink, stamps, or whatever else the page asks for, but resist the urge to make everything coordinate. Let it be loose. Let it be as wild and messy as you are.
As you work, hold this phrase in mind:
I would know myself in all my parts.*
That’s it. That’s the whole spell.
*From a traditional Feri prayer
✨ What’s happening around here:✨
There was a death in my circle this past weekend, and the manner of it has me (and her entire community) reeling, so I might be a bit quiet on the socials for a time while I process. It’s got me whispering wishes at the Invisibles that life were kinder, softer, gentler than it is.
Everyone is posting the hotline numbers and encouraging people to reach out, and that’s lovely, but it’s also devastating, because so often these choices are made by people who either tried to get help, but weren’t sufficiently supported, or wouldn’t call a hotline if you paid them, you know?
Check on your strong friends, would ya? And if YOU are the strong friend who needs checking on, my inbox is always open.
I’ll see you tomorrow with Journal52.
Loving you,

I don't know what to say Effy. I do not follow any socials whatsoever. So I didn't hear anything about this at all but I have had ether friends (Cinnamon Cooney) whose death I am still reeling from. It is so hard - what she went through and what her friends are going through. I don't know about elsewhere in the world, but here in Alberta help even in, especially in, the "help line" is non-existent. The only and best thing we can do is to be here for each other. But it is important to remember that is all you can do. So much sadness with something like this (I am reading between the lines, not knowing what happened). I didn't know Carolyn, at least I don't recognize her by the name you gave. My love and healing to all the community, her friends, her family and to her wherever she is. xoxo
